One of the healthiest mental health aspects to develop in your life are Boundaries. The foundation of being an individual is to have ownership of all your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all day long. However, so many of you struggle each day with dealing with thoughts about others impacting your life negatively which creates anxiety, depression, addictions, or trauma. It becomes a burden to try and reclaim a sense of being grounded in yourself when these patterns arise within you.
Boundaries help you reclaim your essence in your life. You all have a unique energy pattern as you move through your day and yet you lose it when you allow the world to come into that bright loving light that you are and create a dull version of yourself to manifest in your day. This burden can be eliminated in your life by reclaiming your own personal boundaries. It is actually a spiritual calling for us all to find our boundaries and take ownership of your self in your lifetime.
My own personal ancestors are Native Americans and throughout my whole life I have been drawn to their healing traditions. I have asked my clients throughout the years what particular animal has been showing up in their life at that time. Then I look up the meaning and share with them. Today, I will share the power of Armadillo with you to learn to establish your boundaries.
The Armadillo wears it's armor on it's back and this is medicine is a part of it's body. The armor creates safety in it's total being. The Armadillo can roll into a ball and never be penetrated by enemies. What a gift it is to be able to set your boundaries so that harmful words or intentions just roll off of you. The lesson that Armadillo gives you is setting up what you are willing to experience in your life. The Armadillo gives you a wonderful activity to establish these boundaries.
You will need a piece of paper big enough that you can write lots of items down. First, draw a circle on your paper. This is called your medicine shield and it will establish what you allow to happen in your life. Inside of the circle you want to write all the aspects you desire to have, do, or experience in your life. Ensure that you have items that bring you joy within this circle. These will establish the boundaries that you are willing to experience in your life.
On the outside of the circle, you will write aspects of your life that you are willing to experience by invitation only. This is important because you are identifying what you will say Yes or No to in your life that is outside of your self. The outside world needs to know who you are as well. What you write on the outside of the shield is a "by invitation only" focus. This could be criticism from friends. Overall, the shield becomes your boundaries that wards off the things which are undesirable to you. The shield also is a reflection of what you are and what your will is to others on an unconscious level.
I suggest that once you complete your shield that you place it in a spot that you see often throughout your day. Take a picture on your phone of it and set it as your locked screens background. You could even tape it to your bathroom mirror since that is a common place for each of us each day. I'd also suggest that you allow yourself to add to your shield as it is typical for you to think of something later on. Just allow yourself to be creative. Lastly, by seeing it often in your day, you will program your subconscious mind to begin thinking, feeling, and behaving around these boundaries. Thus you will begin to improve your relationships, diminish anxiety symptoms, depression symptoms, addictive behaviors, and even trauma responses.
